For the past month I have thought often about posting and
just have not gotten to it. You see,
there is much to tell of how God’s has met me in unexpected and amazing places.
Cedar Springs
In June I had an opportunity to return to Cedar Springs in
Sumas, Washington where female leaders within the Council for Christian
Colleges & Universities gather to focus on leadership, future, and
faith.
I went prepared to present on a number of topics, but returned
with an overwhelming sense of what God would like me to focus on in the months ahead. I am not sure I can explain the experience at
Cedar Springs other than to say – it is where you release the day to day and
God shows up and meets you in unexpected and overwhelming ways. It is at Cedar Springs, where cell phone and
internet are disconnected, God’s beauty surrounds you, and his presence is
almost tangible, that I hear his voice clearly and am renewed as I return.
At the end of the
week I stayed for a few extra days and had the opportunity to enjoy some great
fellowship with wonderful friends. Laughter and fellowship with friends can fill your bucket!!
Final Days at La Verne
Although I had gone through graduation on June 1, I still
had one final practicum left in July. It
was beginning to feel like the program that would never end and a few of us
wondered if we would ever be done – really!
As I write that I smile because though I was ready to end the program I
knew it was the end of an amazing time in my life. I learned SO much at La Verne and wouldn’t
trade the program, experience, or friends for anything! Looking back it is so apparent that God
placed me at La Verne. We ended our
weekend with all the ULV traditions – like painting the rock in front of
Founder’s Hall (see picture below of our cohort!). Although it is great to be done I am
adjusting to life without school deadlines, assignments, and pressures. I miss the learning and seeing friends as often, and continue to celebrate the
gift!!
Daughter’s
Engagement!
You pray from the time your children are born that God is
preparing them and their future spouse for each other. As a parent you never know who that might be,
but you are always on the lookout! God
answered our prayers and our daughter is getting married next year!
I am SO excited for them and can’t wait to see how God will
use them together for his work. Although
there is a lot to do (for them!), I am trying to take in all the moments we can
in this next year.
Other Pieces
Over the past weeks I have been wrestling with how to
discern the voice of God amidst all the voices around me. Everyone has an opinion of what you should be
doing and where you should be headed. I
have struggled to stay focused on the clarity and peace I found at Cedar
Springs, but keep my notes in front of me so I don’t get distracted. Life never slows down, so I have to work hard
to hear God’s voice amidst all the noise.
Focusing on what I am thankful for, and living fully present in what God
has called me to today, all keep me centered and grounded.
