Today I was reminded that I haven't been posting much on my blog. It has been four weeks since I have been on sabbatical - that's a MONTH! Yet it seems like I am just starting to really begin to live into what this might be. This past week my entire family was off on Spring Break from school. We didn't go anywhere but instead stayed home and did things around the house and area. Nothing spectacular but I believe it is the first time that we have all been home and haven't gone away filling it with "vacation". One of the highlights of the week was spontaneously going into Pasadena for dinner and some shopping. It was such a great evening. We definitely do not do that enough! For some reason we...I usually talk us out of it before we go because I figure it will be to late by the time we get home. That is a mistake and we just need to do it!

One thing that has definitely been a theme of my time away has been family. I see them and am with them more. So much that I am having a hard time setting some away/alone time because I don't want to leave them for even a few days. We also continued our work on the backyard fence this week. I stain the wood and concrete and Doug puts the fence up. Only one problem...yesterday I bent over and out went my back!!! So irritating!!!

The other piece that I have continued since the first week is the Walking Club. We still walk Euclid Avenue in Upland every Tuesday and Thursday morning and are now walking 4 miles in 1 hour and 15 minutes. We have decided that we will do a 5k since that is less that what we are doing now! Our goal is to walk to the top of Euclid from 13th which would be just about 5 1/2 miles.

So for the real learning...I live in fear of not doing the "right" thing. Not a shocker only I have realized that those same knots in my stomach when working are the same ones I have now. For some reason I thought they were tied to work. I am working through this. Feelings of not doing this sabbatical right is on the forefront. Feeling guilty if I see or talk to anyone from APU, wondering why I haven't had some great epiphany yet, wondering if I have gotten on the "other road" or just stopping off on the side of the same one I have always been on...the list goes on. I am spending so much time worrying about not doing things right that I am missing doing it at all. I am definitely going to try an focus on this over the next few weeks and see if I might be able to unravel it a bit more.

Well that was a bit more revealing than I had hoped...back to the fence in the backyard!

  1. Hi Deana! Glad you were able to blog this weekend! I am so glad that you have been able to spend some great quality time with your family, because that is what really matters. God, Family, APU. In that order! And you should not feel guilty about anything. You are in the process of doing some true soul searching, and it seems like God is going to reveal some things to you soon. Love you!
