Life is rolling along so fast and I find this huge need to document all that is going on - and yet there is no time!

This week Rebecca leaves for college. We will move her into the dorms and then she will begin the journey of her life! I am so excited for her that I can barely stand it, and yet just under the surface are many emotions. I have been told by so many people "why are you struggling, she is only moving down the freeway 20 minutes!" and "You work at APU, you will still see her." I am tired of both.

There is no difference when your child leaves home for school. The room is now empty, there is one less person at dinner, you don't see them daily, and of course the house is cleaner! Sure if I really need to I can go and find her on campus, but I really want her to have her own experience so I don't want to be there all the time. All that said, transition is hard, your child leaving home is hard, and knowing that it will never be as it was is hard. It is time for the next phase in life for all of us.

So what do I anticipate - crying a lot! Just under the surface are strong emotions. The best way to handle them, besides eating, is giving her journey and next years over to the Lord. I absolutely know that God's hand is on this amazing young lady. He has gifted her so amazingly and I know she will do great things for Him. I also know that there is much to learn about herself, her relationships and what God's calling is on her life. I will continually give this journey over to the Lord and I am SO thankful for a God who cares so much about her and me in the process. :)

So today, with five days until the room at the end of the hall is empty, I celebrate the days we have left at home!

  1. Deana, Katie started grad school at NYU last week. As we pulled away from her apartment (she shares with roommates from Ohio and France), I was stoic, but Wayne was very emotional. You're right about one less person in the house. I'm so happy for this journey you're on!
